History of the Bluecoat's Bistro
Our upstairs bistro has undergone many transformations over the years. For 200 years the Bluecoat building was a school for destitute children and the bistro space was then used as a chapel.
When the school moved and the building became an arts centre, the upstairs space became 'The Concert Hall', a performance space that hosted many iconic figures including Yoko Ono in 1967 and Sun Ra in 1990.
In 2008 the bistro as it looks today was built during a big re-development of the building. The upstairs restaurant offered a new place in the building for people to get together, enjoy food and drink and escape the city centre crowds.
