The 2015 Lounge hosted a second European book launch for University of Ottawa Press' Lowry series: The 1940 Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry: A Critical Edition, an earlier, unpublished version of his 1947 masterpiece. Often regarded as no more than a blueprint for the later work, it had never been adequately considered nor fully critically edited. This edition - a bridge between Lowry’s 1930s fiction (especially In Ballast to the White Sea, which was launched at the 2014 Lounge) and the 1947 Under the Volcano itself - was edited and introduced by Miguel Mota and Paul Tiessen, with annotations by Chris Ackerley and David Large and a foreword by Patrick A. McCarthy and Vik Doyen, who came to Liverpool to introduce the book.
